Saturday 2nd August 2014

Guided walk -The Sea Around Us  - A guided walk led by Jan Guy. Starts 10:30am at the Visitor Centre. This 2 hour walk explains fishing methods, local navigation and pilotage and touches on the natural history of our seas and shores. Drowning also features – but only in historical terms! A fairly easy stroll which finishes at the Pilcher Monument. Themes and routes might change if weather is inclement or paths temporarily out of use. Advanced booking is at the Visitor Centre is advised. Tickets cost £4 per adult. £2 per child. Strong footwear, lightweight waterproofs and small bottle of water are also advised. Monday 4th August 2014

A family walk with Lydia BourneThis walk starts at 2pm and is based in and around the beautiful Seigneurie Gardens. Appropriate for families with children from buggy age to 8. The walk will take you around some interesting points in the garden including the maze, the pond, the gardens themselves and the canons. Children will be provided with an activity sheet to do and a certificate on completion of the walk. This walk will be fun without little legs getting too tired. Approximate time 1.5 hours. The walk will end up at Hathaway’s where you are welcome to stay and have a drink or lunch. 1 adult to 2 children please. (Cost and meeting place to be confirmed).

Rockpool Ramble with Visitor Officer Karen Adams. Meet 2pm outside Dixcart Hotel. Families welcome. Come and explore the shore at low tide and discover the weird and wonderful creatures and plants which are specially adapted to the environment. Strong and waterproof footwear is essential. Bring a net and bucket if you have one. Children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-booking is essential. The walk meets at 11:30am outside the Visitor Centre and covers a little bit of everything from History to Flowers, with plenty of opportunity for questions throughout.  Pre-booking is essential. Artists of SarkA guided walk led by Visitor Officer Karen Adams. An exploration of the locations associated with some of the many artists who have been drawn to Sark throughout history, including where they lived and worked. We finish this walk in one of the most spectacular locations on Sark. Pre-booking is essential. Starts 10:30am at the Mermaid Tavern. ‘Why is Sark so Special?’ EXHIBITION at the Sark Visitor Centre. Entry is free and the exhibition will be up until 12 noon on Sunday 30th November.

Saturday 6th September 2014

Celebration of the Sea - Up at the North end of the island. Entertainment includes live music, craft demonstrations, face-painting and plenty of delicious local sea food. Funds raised go towards the ‘Pennies from Heaven’ appeal.

Monday 8th September 2014

A Trip to the Venus PoolThis walk starts at 10:30am and takes you from the Visitor Centre along the cliff path to La Coupee and then on into Little Sark. Passing the old silver mines we descend over steep rocks to the Venus Pool, immortalised by our famous artist William A Toplis. The pool is only accessible at low tide. There will be a short rest break during which you could have a dip in the pool, before we ascend to take a path back to La Sablonnerie Hotel and Tea Gardens, where the walk terminates. Pre booking is essential. Caution: The descent to the Venus Pool is a scramble down steep rocks to sea level. There the rocks may be slippery from the receding tide. It is essential that you have the correct footwear for rocky terrain and that you only attempt this climb if you feel that you are fit and able enough to scramble up and down rocks.

Guided walk – Sark Folk Tales. The strange and unexplained aspects of our mysterious islandSark is rich in folk lore and this easy walk, led by Jan Guy, which starts from the Visitor Centre at 10:30am will take you to some of the sites where huge, red- eyed dogs, murderous pirates and chanting monks may have roamed. Suitable for accompanied children as well as adults the walk takes about 2  1/2 hours.  Pre-booking desirable. Minimum of 4 adults needed for the walk to go ahead. Christine’s Mystery WalkThe walk starts at 10:30am from The Visitor Centre where you will be taken for a walk around an undisclosed part of the island, chosen on that day for its special qualities. It could be that certain butterflies or flowers are in abundance on the route, with a headland or valley looking at its best. On the way interesting features will be pointed out and explained and you will have the opportunity to ask questions of a general nature about our lovely island. Walking will be moderate, with a few inclines and stiles. Please ensure that you have sturdy footwear. Pre booking is essential. Minimum of 4 adults needed for the walk to go ahead. Adults £4.
